Kondolencer ved Bent Larsens død
11. september 2010
Thomas Hauge Vestergård

Dansk Skak Union har modtaget flere kondolencer ved Bent Larsens død.

Fra verdensmester Viswanathan Anand:
I was really saddened to hear about the loss of Bent Larsen. Having followed his games as a youngster I had the privilege of meeting him last in 2005 in Argentina.

It was nice that the Danish Chess Federation honoured him in his 75th year and am sure those memories he must have held very dearly till the end. My condolences go out to his family, especially his wife who took care of him in his last years. I would also like to express my heartfelt empathy for the Danish Chess Community that has lost one of its greatest members.

Regards

Viswanathan Anand

Fra Chessdom.com:
Dear Lars-Henrik Bech Hansen,
We are saddened to hear that one of the world's greatest chess artists GM
Bent Larsen has passed away. The Chessdom team expresses condolences to all
Denmark and the chess world
.

Fra Alan McGowan, Historian, Chess Scotland, www.chessscotland.com:
Dear Sir,
Please excuse the fact that I have to address you in English.
I was saddened to read the news of the death of Bent Larsen.

I wanted to draw your attention to some information that is on the Chess
Scotland web site, the idetails having been related to me by Michael
Fallone, a member of the Scotland team at the Havana Olympiad 1966.

At the time, Scotland was not a major force in the chess world, and Fallone
was 'unknown', despite having played in the 1956 and 1964 Olympiads.
However, as you will appreciate, these events provide an opportunity for
individual players to prove themselves.

Scotland played East Germany in their Preliminary group section, round 2,
with Michael Fallone being drawn against International Grandmaster Wolfgang
Pietzsch. Fallone succeeded in defeating his experienced opponent, which, of
course, meant a great deal to him. However, as explained by Michael himself,
Larsen added significantly to the occasion:

"I was naturally elated after the game", said Michael, "but what made my day
was that Larsen, the Danish Grandmaster, went out of his way to approach me,
later on that day, and offer his congratulations. This was indeed a terrific
gesture on his part."

This was indeed a wonderful gesture on the part of a very experienced
Grandmaster, who took a few moments of his time to approach a player of
lesser standing. I think this says a great deal about Larsen the man, not
just the chess player.

I thought it worthwhile to bring this to your attention. Please feel free to
share the information with others, should you wish to do so.

Sincerely,

Alan McGowan

Fra Armenien:
Dear Chess Friends,
Armenian Chess Federation condoles on the death of the legendary Grandmaster
Bent Larsen.

During his many years in chess, his dedication and selfless nature was
always something that many others could only hope to attain and all who knew
him regarded him with great respect and admiration. He helped the chess move
forward in great strides and his efforts and contributions will never be
forgotten.

Please, convey our heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

Sincerely,

Armenian Chess Federation
